Social District Consensus

This wasn’t widely reported at the time, so it’s worth re-iterating even now. Back in January during their retreat, the Waxhaw Board of Commissioners were in agreement that the town should not move forward on Social Districts. This was not an official vote, but we achieved consensus during the discussion on this topic.

For those who are not aware, a “Social District” is a designated area where a local government can forego the usual prohibition on open consumption of alcoholic beverages. Waxhaw tried this out last year during the Autumn Treasures event downtown, and there were subsequent discussions on allowing a quasi-permanent Social District.
