State Reps in Waxhaw

May 16, 2025 by Susanna Wedra

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 7:00 PM, the Western Union Municipal Alliance (WUMA) will hold its monthly meeting at Waxhaw Town Hall. This session will focus on critical legislation that directly affects our communities’ ability to guide and manage local development.

We will discuss Senate Bill 382, which has already weakened local zoning authority, as well as two new bills—HB-765 and SB-688—which propose to further erode municipal control. These bills threaten to override local zoning decisions, remove the public’s right to comment on rezoning proposals, and potentially expose elected officials to legal consequences for fulfilling their duties.

To foster an open and informed dialogue, we’ve invited our local state representatives to participate. Representatives Dean Arp and David Willis have confirmed their attendance. Senator Todd Johnson is unable to join us due to a prior commitment, and we are awaiting a response from Representative Mark Brody.

This meeting presents a valuable opportunity to understand what’s at stake and to make your voice heard. I strongly encourage all residents to attend and engage in this vital conversation about the future of our communities.
