Inspired by Hank Williams Jr.’s “A Country Boy Can Survive,” this local version celebrates the town’s small-town charm, its landmarks, and the community spirit that makes it special. From Mary O’Neil’s pub to Queens South pizza, from Cane Creek to the Waxhaw Museum, “Waxhaw Will Survive” pays tribute to the people and places that define our town – a song for Waxhaw.
Lyrics
The traffic’s slow on Providence Road,
And train horns shake the night,
Downtown’s got that old brick charm,
And Mary’s pints pour right.
The Waxhaw Wall’s still standing tall,
With names from far and wide,
From Queens South pies to Stacks at dawn, This town’s got hometown pride.
’Cause Waxhaw will survive!
Waxhaw will survive!
We still wave to our neighbors,
Under Carolina skies,
Yeah, Waxhaw will survive!
There’s Uptown Tea with paintings on the wall,
Farmers’ Market Saturday,
That old wooden bridge still stands today,
And we still find our way.
From Cane Creek Park to the Waxhaw Museum,
Legends never die,
We’ll keep the Wall alive and well,
Our little town won’t hide!
Waxhaw will survive!
Waxhaw will survive!
From the water tank to the Wall,
This town will never die,
Yeah, Waxhaw will survive!
We used to hunt on open land, And fish Cane Creek all day,
Now they’re plowing fields for cul-de-sacs, The farmland fades away.
They say subdivisions mean progress, But we ain’t buying lies,
Folks came here for the small-town charm, And we won’t let it die.
’Cause Waxhaw will survive!
Waxhaw will survive!
We’ll keep our Wall and water tank tall,
While Charlotte’s traffic cries,
Yeah, Waxhaw will survive!
