Our new Mayor did an excellent job representing Waxhaw this past Thursday on Breaking with Brett Jensen during the broadcast from the Waxhaw FD Cigar Company. Click here to listen. He was able to share some insights about reasons for the success of The Waxhaw Wall last November, and how that ties into Union County issues.
Of course, Brett Jensen couldn’t resist taking a jab at Mayor Murray on the issue of development. As some may remember, Brett trashed us back in October after his time was wasted on moderating a sham “debate” that the WBA insisted on moving forward with. Brett also made false statements about us, such as claiming we are anti-business. When mutual contacts reached out to him about it, he refused to hear our side or set the record straight.
Regarding the “debate”, we had already committed to a campaign event on the same date and the WBA refused to be flexible even though the exact same venue had already been booked for a similar event a few days later. We also did not trust that the organizers were unbiased because they started using our names to promote the event before we could RSVP, and only gave us 11 days notice. Our opponents also promoted the event immediately, even going so far as to spend money on Facebook advertising.
Subsequent public information requests have confirmed that our instincts were correct – below is the email evidence that our opponents were notified about the debate weeks before us.
Candidate Susanna Wedra emailed Brett Jensen about our concerns, but received no reply.
Bearing all that in mind, Robert handled Brett’s jab with grace and ease, and quickly moved onto substantive issues. Well done Mayor Murray!
