Our Achievements – Outvoted, Not Overruled

October 10, 2025 by Richard Daunt

What We’ve Achieved Together

Since you entrusted us with the honor of serving this community, we’ve taken bold action to bring honesty, transparency, and accountability back to Waxhaw. We were outvoted not overruled.

Exposing Dishonesty

From the start, we challenged the previous administration’s false claims. They tried to convince the public that opposing high-density rezoning was somehow illegal. We proved otherwise, and as a result, residents now know the truth.

Restoring Transparency

Two by Two 101

We also pushed back against the shady “two-by-two” practice, where board members split up to skirt open meetings law. Because of our efforts, that tactic has fallen away, and transparency has been restored.

Protecting Waxhaw’s Character

Social District Consensus

When others proposed a seven-day-a-week downtown social district, we stood firm and reached consensus. Instead of surrendering Waxhaw’s character, we defended the values that make our town unique.

Breaking the Status Quo

July 23 BOC Meeting Summary

From day one, we disrupted the old way of doing business. That change in direction quickly produced results: the town attorney, town manager, assistant town manager, and planning director all resigned. They saw the writing on the wall, and the era of unaccountable power began to crumble. For that, we’ve withstood a series of unrelenting attacks.

Cutting Waste, Saving Money

Waxhaw's Budget

In addition, we eliminated unnecessary positions like Social Media Specialist, Assistant Town Manager, and Grant Writer. By doing so, we brought efficiency and fiscal discipline to town operations. We went further by creating an efficiency program that rewards employees who save money with practical ideas.

Blocking Backroom Deals

From Landslide Loss to Backroom Deal

Time and time and time again, we exposed shady maneuvers. For instance, when incumbents tried to reinstall a former commissioner to the planning board and appoint the former mayor as interim town manager, we stopped those backdoor deals in their tracks.

Standing Against Harmful Rezoning

Emerson Rezoning

We consistently voted no on harmful rezoning projects. Instead of caving, we educated residents about the long-term risks, ensuring that the public understood exactly what was at stake.

Informing the Public

House Bill 765

When our calls for transparency met resistance, we didn’t give up. Instead, we maintained our website and produced videos so citizens could stay informed about the issues that affect them most.

In addition, when state legislators drafted bills that would strip local governments of zoning authority, we set a call to action in motion. We not only activated Waxhaw citizens, but we also reached out personally to every state legislator and almost every county commissioner in North Carolina. As a result, they became aware of these harmful changes, many of which had been quietly slipped into larger proposals and were not widely known.

Fighting for Fair Taxes

Most recently, we fought to protect your wallet. The majority pushed for a much higher tax rate, but we refused to cave. We exposed Commissioner Jason Hall’s “revenue-neutral” hypocrisy and stood firm—even when they threatened to allow the Local Government Commission to take over, which would have forced rates up to 0.385. Thanks to persistence, we set a fairer rate of 0.29.

The Work Ahead

The Waxhaw Wall 2.0

Together, we’ve already changed the direction of Waxhaw. Now it’s time to finish the job. Three exceptional citizens have stepped up as The Waxhaw Wall 2.0, and we ask you to give them your full support.

Special thanks to Commissioner Wedra for her assistance with compiling this information.
